Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited moved to the sixth position in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2022-23 after they registered a massive 101-run win over City Club during their eighth match at the BKSP-3 ground in Savar on Saturday.

Skipper Imrul Kayes led Mohammedan from the front as he struck 114 off 121 balls before his retiring out while Mahmudullah and Mahidul Islam Ankon scored 71 and 65 runs respectively as they posted a colossal total of 348-7 in 50 overs after being sent into bat first.

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who led Bangladesh to a seven-wicket win over Ireland on Friday, also made a quick-fire 26 off 16 balls for Mohammedan.

Rayan Rafsan Rahman took three wickets for City Club. City Club, in reply, were reduced to 128-5 in the 26th over before Asif Ahmed Ratul (52) and Abdulla Al Mamun (70) scored fifties but their knocks only reduced the margin of defeat as they made 247-7 in their stipulated overs.

Jake Lintott was the most successful bowler for Mohammedan as he claimed 3-68.

It was also Mohammedan’s third successive win in the tournament while City Club now have lost five out of their eight matches.

Mohammedan all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, however, was fined TK 10 thousand after the match for his misconduct with the fourth umpire over his leg before decision during the game.

Mehidy was not happy with the leg before decision after he was given out on six of Asif Hasan’s bowling during the 14th over of Mohammedan innings and he exchanged some heated words with the umpires, who later decided to fine him.

Meanwhile, in the day’s other matches, Gazi Group Cricketers ended their two-match losing streak by beating Agrani Bank Cricket Club by seven wickets at the BKSP-4 ground while Brothers Union defeated Shinepukur Cricket Club by six wickets in Fatullah to clinch their third win in the tournament.

A brilliant bowling performance by Tipu Sultan (3-38) and Sumon Khan (2-24) helped Gazi Group bowl Agrani Bank all out for 169 runs in 45.4 overs after they elected to bowl first.

Mehedi Maruf then scored 67 runs while Farhad Hossain (48) and Ravi Teja (31 not out) made decent contributions as Gazi Group reached 170-3 in 38.2 overs to complete their third win in the tournament.

In Fatullah, Shubham Sharma scored 74 runs while Amite Hasan and Sazzadul Hoque Ripon made 42 and 41 runs respectively as Shinepukur posted 228-9 in their 50 overs after being sent into bat first.

Brothers were then reduced to 107-4 in the 18th over during the run chase but Arafat Sunny Jnr (55 not out) and Saad Naseem (62 not out) shared an unbroken stand of 122 runs for the fifth wicket to take their side home, 229-4, in just 35 overs to hand Shinepukur their sixth defeat in the meet.
