Jatka seized, 17 fishermen fined in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: At least 20 mounds of Jatka, Hilsa fry less than 10 inches of length) were recovered from a boat in the city’s Patenga area on Wednesday. 

Five mounds of fishes of other species were also recovered and 17 fishermen were fined Tk 85,000 during the drive.

Chattogram District Administration, Bangladesh Navy and Fisheries Department jointly conducted drive led by Executive Magistrate Pratik Duttain Naval Base near Patenga Ghat Number 15 in the port city.

Magistrate Pratik Dutta said 20 mounds of Jatka and five mounds of other fishes were recovered from the boat ‘FV Sharmin’ during the drive.

“A total of 18 fishermen were working in the ship and 17 of them were fined Tk85,000,” he said.

The other fisherman was released after taking undertaking due to his underage, said the magistrate.

The magistrate also said the recovered Jatka were distributed among six local madrashas and orphanages, and nine orphanages and ‘Chotomoni Nibash’ run under Social Services department.

Bangladesh Navy Lieutenant Md Sayem and high officials of Fisheries department were present during the drive, he added.
