Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2023 will begin on Bangla Academy premises and its adjacent Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital tomorrow.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the month-long fair at 3:00pm.
Secretary Md Abul Monsur of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will deliver greeting speech and Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Nurul Huda will deliver the welcome address.
Bangla Academy disclosed the details of the fair at a press conference held at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of the academy on Monday.
This year, Bangla Academy has set the theme of the fair as “Poro Boi Goro Desh, Bangabandhur Bangladesh”.
In the book fair, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will unveil seven new books published by Bangla Academy and hand over the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2022.
This year, the book fair will be held in an area of about 11.5 lakh square ft. A total of 901 units have been allocated to 601 organisations. Of those, 165 units have been allocated to 112 organisations on the Bangla Academy premises while 736 units have been allocated to 489 organisations at Suhrawardy Udyan.
In addition, Bangla Academy will have 3 pavilions and one stall for the marketing of child friendly publications.
There will be seminars and cultural programmes in the evening on the main stage of the book fair at 4:00pm every day.
Every Friday and Saturday, the fair will have 'Shishu Prohor' from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
As part of Amar Ekushey celebrations, children's painting, recitation and music competitions will be organised.
Besides, there will be strict security arrangements in and around the book fair venue to avert any unpleasant incident.
The fair will remain open from 3:00pm to 9:00pm from Sunday to Thursday and from 11:00am to 9:00pm on Friday and Saturday.
On February 21, the book fair will continue from 8:00am to 9:00pm.
