Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) has enhanced the dignity of gold traders in the last one year through providing them with shield against various problems, a central leader of the organisation said on Saturday.
“I served BAJUS for long time. However, there was no much development then. Current President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has changed the situation and enhanced the dignity of gold traders through a revolution,” said MA Wadud Khan.
Some 600 jewellers participated in the meeting arranged by Gazipur district unit BAJUS at Joydebpur Convention Centre. BAJUS Assistant Secretary and Gazipur district chapter convener Shamit Ghosh Apu presided over the meeting while executive members Tazul Islam Lavlu, Bablu Dutta and Aslam Khan were also present.
Former President of BAJUS Gazipur district unit Azhar Ali lauded the dynamic leadership of Sayem Sobhan Anvir in strengthening the bonding between members of the organisation.
“Businessmen became victim of police harassment many times even after purchasing legal gold. BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has reshaped the industry to create a congenial atmosphere for doing business,” Nikhil Chandra Dutta, a businessman from Tongi, said.
Former Joint General Secretary of Gazipur district BAJUS Firozul Hossain Selim said the organisation has brought a huge number of gold traders across the country under its umbrella as the figure has reached 40,000 from 7,000 in the last one year.
Biswanath Karmakar of Joyadebpur Market, Delwar Sarkar of Chandana Chowrasta, Jitesh Karmakar of Kaliakoir Bazar, Chandan Rakshit of Kapasia upazila, Swapan Banik of Sreepur upazila, Santosh Karmakar of Kaliganj upazila, Atal Chandra Sikdar of Bhawal Mirzapur and Chandan Das of Konabari also spoke on the occasion.
BAJUS Vice-President Dr Dewan Aminul Islam was the chief guest while district unit convener Babul Kanti Dhar presided over the meeting held at Horticulture Park in the district town.
BAJUS executive members Pabitra Chandra Ghosh and Reponul Hasan and District Monitoring Committee member Pronob Shaha were also present at the meeting.
