Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 20 gold bars from a mustard field in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district on Monday.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, smugglers fled the spot, leaving a bag of gold bars weighing 2.330 kg. The estimated value of the gold bars is Tk 2,17,85,500.
Following an intelligence report, BGB men conducted a raid in the Narkelbaria border area under Sharsha upazila, he added.
According to sources, an unidentified smuggler with the gold bag was waiting at the local Kalu Mia's mango grove. Chased by the BGB men, he ran away, dropping the bag in a mustard field.
