Opposition political parties -- BNP and Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) -- have consented to orchestrate a simultaneous movement to press some of their common demands including resignation of the Awami League (AL) government.

The agreement came at a meeting between BNP and Jatiya Party at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office in the capital on Monday. After the meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that they discussed some of their common demands.

"We’ve decided to launch a concurrent movement to oust this government," Fakhrul, who led the BNP delegation, said.

Their other demands include dissolution of parliament, release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and holding the next general election under election-time caretaker government.

Echoing Fakhrul’s comments, Jatiya Party Chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider, who led his party's delegation, said they would unite people irrespective of their backgrounds.

BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan and Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Secretary General Ahsan Habib Linkon were among others present in the meeting.

Earlier on Sunday, BNP held talks with leaders of Bangladesh Kalyan Party and agreed to go for joint movement on the same issues. The party will hold meetings with more than 20 parties and outline its movement plan in November.
