Enamul Haq, the first director general of Bangladesh Betar, has died of multi-organ failures in a city hospital on Tuesday night. He was 93.

The veteran journalist was the first director general of Radio Bangladesh after the independence of the country. Two years after he was given responsibilities of heading Press Information Department (PID) as PIO, said a press release.

Haq left behind his wife, two sons, three daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. 

He was buried at a graveyard in Baridhara J block where he lived.

In 1980 he was posted to Bangladesh high commission in London as press minister. Around 2 years after he returned to Bangladesh to merge radio and television as National Broadcasting Authority or NBA and took the position of director general and chairman.

After about 2 years of service he was again sent to Bangladesh high commission in New Delhi where he retired as additional secretary in the Ministry of Information.

On his return he joined as director general of PIB and DFP as director general on government contact basis.

He was also made chairman of the Bangladesh Times for a while after his retirement. In his private life he served as the editor of the new nation newspaper and also contributed hundreds of articles for many domestic and international publications.
