Workers of Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE) staged a demonstration in the capital’s Tejgaon area on Tuesday demanding payment of salary regularly.

Several hundred workers staged the demonstration in Tejgaon Railway Station area between 8:00am and 11:00am.

DEE worker Md Sejan said the contractors do not pay them regularly and deduct money showing various excuses.

“We don’t even know the reasons why the salary is being cut,” he added.

The worker said they demanded payment of due salary in due time without any deduction.

Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge Tejgaon Police Station, said that the workers were supposed to get monthly salary by the 10th day of each month.

As they did not get their monthly wage till Tuesday, they staged a peaceful demonstration in the area, he said.

‘Later we talked to project officials and then salaries were sent to the workers through bkash,’ the officer added.

The workers ended the demonstration at around 11:00am, he added.
