About 12,000-15,000 sacks of illegally stored DAP and Urea fertilizer were seized from a warehouse in Bogura sadar early on Monday.

The fertilizer owned by businessman Nazmul Parves Kanak was hoarded to sell them on the black market at a higher price.

A team of local administration led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Samar Kumar Paal conducted a raid on the depot in Arulia and seized the sacks at about 12:30 am.

Samar Kumar said, “Kanak has a business entity named Friends Traders in Borogola area, but he kept the fertilizer at his father’s storehouse, Manju-Karim Traders, in Arulia.

“Kanak is not a licenced dealer in fertilizer, but he has long been selling DAP and Urea fertilizer after storing them illegally.”

Besides, 5,000-7,000 sacks of spoiled fertilizer were found, he said, adding that two trucks were also seized while the godown was sealed off.

The money earned from selling the fertilizer would be deposited to the account of the exchequer, he said.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) of the upazila Nurul Islam and some members of law enforcement agencies were present during the raid.
