The government approved a second revision of the ongoing Dhaka Metro Rail of MRT-6 project, increasing the project cost by Tk 114.97 billion.
The cost has been raised to extend the project to Kamalapur and meet the increased cost of other components.
The approval came at the meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held virtually on Tuesday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The ECNEC meeting gave nod to a total of eight projects, half of them revised schemes, at an overall estimated cost of Tk 158.57 billion, Planning Minister MA Mannan told the reporters after the meeting.
Of the total amount, Tk 124.44 billion will come from the government fund, Tk 32.78bn as project assistance and the implementing agency will bear Tk 1.35 billion from its own resources, the minister said.
As per the second revision of the Metro Rail Project, there will be civil works, rolling stocks modification, E&M system and station plaza construction from Motijheel to Kamalapur Line.

Initially, the metro rail will operate from Uttara to Agargaon as the work on the 11.73 km Diabari-Agargaon portion is nearing completion.
The other projects approved in the meeting are Upgrading Hathazari to Raozan portion of Chattogram-Rangamati national highway into four-lane at Tk 1.05bn, Upgrading Itakhola-Mothkhola-Katiadi Road and Noyapara-Araihazar-Narsingdi-Raipura regional highway into due standard and width at a cost of Tk 9.85bn and Construction of Pipeline from Dhonua to Mymensingh for ensuring gas supply to Mymensingh Combined Cycle Power Plant at a cost of Tk 5.53bn.
The other projects approved in the meeting are population-based uterine and breast cancer screening programme (EPCBCSP) including electronic data tracking, second revised, with an additional cost of Tk 1.30bn, protecting Khagrachhari town and adjacent infrastructures from river erosion at Tk 5.86bn, Upazila Governance and Development Project, second revised, with an additional cost of Tk 2.12bn and Greater Dinajpur rural infrastructures development project at Tk 18bn.
