Congratulations, Bashundhara Kings!

Congratulations, Bashundhara Kings!

The beginning of the journey of Bashundhara Kings was just like the popular Latin phrase ‘veni, vidi, vici’. Since their debut in the country's professional football arena, Bashundhara Kings have been continuing to write their success stories one after another. The Kings, who started their journey in 2017, have won the country’s all major domestic titles in the last five years. The latest inclusion in this glorious story is the third consecutive title of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a top tier of Bangladeshi professional football league pyramid.

With a 2-0 win against Saif Sporting Club, the Kings has confirmed their league title retention with two matches to spare of the season. Clinching three titles in just three appearances, along with three other major trophies in just three completed seasons (2019-20 season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic), is surely a great achievement for any professional soccer team. We congratulate the Kings for this great accomplishment and hope that they will continue their success in the future.

By performance, it was an excellent season for the winners as they were very close to an unbeaten championship (only one defeat and three draws among a number of encounters) throughout the season. The team management will surely be satisfied with such performance of the team. However, it is the country’s soccer lovers who are really happy to see the rise of a team that plays better football compared to other local clubs and can compete with foreign clubs.

Apart from on-field performance, Bashundhara Kings management has brought a huge change in the idea of professionalism in the game, which has been proven through their laudable style of players’ signing. Their commitment to soccer is also praiseworthy. The Kings has become the first soccer club in the country to own a stadium. Earlier we see that while most of the teams want to restrict them in the capital, Bashundhara Kings had selected Sheikh Kamal Stadium located in Nilphamari district in the northern part of the country as their home ground only to revive the craze for football once again across the country.

We hope that along with winning the hearts of the country's soccer lovers through their on-field performance, the Kings will contribute a lot to changing the football culture of the country through their off-field activities, with the intention of improving the overall standard of Bangladesh football.

We wish the Kings all the best!
