Motorcycle-car collision kills 3 in Gazipur; 3 die as 2 buses collide in Bogura; varsity student killed in N’ganj

Road accidents claim 7 lives

At least six people were killed in two separate road accidents in Gazipur and Bogura on Friday.

In Gazipur, three people were killed and a child was injured in a collision between a private car and a motorcycle at Konabari Police Station in Gazipur.

The accident occurred on Konabari Flyover at around 11:30 am.

The deceased were identified as Raju, 32, Shaheen, 30, and Shamim, 30.

Injured Raisa, 2.5, is the daughter of deceased Raju.

Konabari Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Sakhawat Imtiaz said that a motorcycle collided with a private car in the new market area in the morning, leaving them critically injured. Locals rushed them to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Raju, Shaheen, and Shamim dead. Injured child Raisa has been sent to Pangu Hospital in the capital.

Meanwhile, three passengers were killed in a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Sherpur upazila of Bogura. The bus driver and 10 other passengers were injured in the incident.

The accident took place on the Dhaka-Bogura highway at a place called Ghoga Bridge in Bhavanipur Union of the upazila at around 3:30 pm on Friday.

Two men and one woman were killed in the accident. Their identity could not be known immediately.

According to police and local sources, when a passenger bus of Kaliakair Paribahan left Dhaka reached the Ghogabridge area of the highway on Friday afternoon, there was a head-on collision with another bus of Naogaon Travels Paribahan coming from the opposite direction.

Two bus passengers died on the spot. At least 10 people including the driver of both buses were injured.

After receiving the information, the fire service personnel quickly reached the spot with the help of local people and rescued the seriously injured and first took them to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex. When the condition worsened there, they       were immediately taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (Shajimek) Hospital in Bogura.

The condition of three-four people admitted there is critical. The bodies of the three people killed in the incident were later handed over to the highway police.

Baniul Anam, in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Camp, said that two buses have been seized.

Meanwhile, a joyride to historic Panam City in Narayanganj turned tragic for a group of university students after one of them was killed in a road accident while three others escaped with injuries, reports UNB.

Twenty-year-old Mahima, a third-year student in English at the East West University, was killed, and three of her classmates were hurt when a bus hit their car at 10:45am.

A bus of Saudia Paribahan crashed into the vehicle in Sonargaon’s Dariyakandi, leaving four students, including Mahima, seriously injured, Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway Police Station, said.

Mahima’s other classmates, who were in another car, rushed her and three others to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the 20-year-old was declared dead upon arrival, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said.

Rabab, 25, Anan, 22, and Kazi, 22, are undergoing treatment at the hospital, and they are out of danger now, he added. Police seized the bus; however, the driver managed to flee the scene of the crash, OC Nabir said.
