FBCCI senior vice-president and also convener of the FBCCI Market Monitoring Committee Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu speaks at a discussion meeting with the leaders of Mohammadpur Town Hall Dhaka North City Corporation Kitchen Market Traders Association in the capital on Saturday.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged the traders to sell products at the government-fixed prices to keep the market stable ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Senior vice-president of the country’s apex trade body and also convener of the FBCCI Market Monitoring Committee, Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu made the call at a discussion meeting with Mohammadpur Town Hall Dhaka North City Corporation Kitchen Market Traders Association on Saturday.

During the meeting, he urged the traders to keep the domestic market stable and to not capitalise on the global market crisis for price hike.

He directed the market monitoring committee to make sure the products are being sold at the prices fixed by the government.

FBCCI leader said there is no crisis of spices and other essentials ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the Muslim’s major festivals.

“If anyone is found stockpiling products and creating artificial crisis, FBCCI will send the names to the government agencies recommending punitive measures,” warned Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu.

FBCCI senior vice-president also urged the mill owners to send the list of dealers of sugar, salt, flour etc.

President of Mohammadpur Town Hall Dhaka North City Corporation Kitchen Market Traders Association Md. Lutfar Rahman (Babul) informed that the association shut down the shops which were found stockpiling and selling goods at higher prices.

He said such steps will continue to prevent selling products at higher prices than the fixed ones.

FBCCI director Abu Motaleb urged the consumers to not buy goods more than they need at a time to keep the market stable.

The meeting was also attended, among others, by FBCCI directors Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal, Harun Or Roshid and General Secretary of Mohammadpur Town Hall Dhaka North City Corporation Kitchen Market Traders Association Md. Muslim Uddin Shikder.
