Bangladesh national archery team will return home tomorrow after ending their fruitless campaign in the recently-concluded World Cup Stage 1 held in the Turkish city Antalya on April 19-24.

The team failed to bag a medal from any of their participating events – recurve men’s and women’s singles, teams, mixed and compound men’s singles, though the head coach Martin Frederick earlier said the competition was part of their preparation for the upcoming Asian Games.

In the men’s recurve singles, Sagor Islam was eliminated after losing to Kozhokar Ivan of Ukrine by 2-6 sets in the elimination round (round of 16) and Hakim Ahmed Rubel lost to Nespoli Mauro of Italy by 1-7 sets in the round of 32.  Ace archer Ruman Shana conceded defeat to Turkish Maras Efe Gurkan in a tie-breaker as their match tied at 5-5 sets. Shana scored 9 while Maras scored 9+ in the tie-breaker.

In the women’s recurve singles, Diya Siddique lost to Umer Ana of Slovenia by 4-6 sets and Nasrin Akter lost to Peng Chia-Mao by 0-6 sets, both in the round of 32.

Another archer Famida Sultana Nesha lost to Adiceom Audrey of France in the tie-breaker of the same round match. Their match was tied at 5-5. In the tie-breaker, Nesha scored 7 and Adiceom managed 10.

In the mixed events, the Bangladeshi pair Sagor and Diya lost to Chinese Taipei by 0-6 sets in the quarterfinal (round of 8).
