Housewife killed in Cumilla cylinder blast

CUMILLA: A housewife was burnt to death in a fire allegedly caused by gas cylinder blast at her Dhewatali village residence of Jalam union under Barura upazila of the district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Yasmin, 20, wife of Md Rezaul Karim. They were married one month ago.

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, a gas cylinder exploded in Yasmin’s residence around 6am and immediately caught fire where she was sleeping.

“Yasmin was burnt to ashes in that fire,” said officer-in-charge (OC) of Barura Police Station Iqbal Bahar Majumder.

During the incident, her husband was in mosque for Fazr prayers, he said, adding: “However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.”

We are investigating the matter, the OC further added.
