The government has awarded public works of a 1,690-metre long bridge over the Payra River to two construction firms at a cost of nearly Tk 6.41 billion.

A joint venture of SAMWHAN and Mir Akhter will carry out the work on Kachua-Betagi-Patuakhali-Lohalia-Kalaiya road.

A procurement proposal of bridges division got nod on Sunday at the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin virtually briefed journalists about the meeting outcomes later.

Earlier on March 10 last year, the government approved the bridge project at an estimated cost of Tk 10.42 billion after Shirshendu Biswas, a 4th grader student of Patuakhali Government Jubilee High School earlier wrote a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to construct a bridge over River Payra.

The CCGP also okayed a variation proposal of water resources ministry to spend additional Tk 2.49 billion on DPM-01 package of right embankment protection project for Jajira and Noria upazilas of Shariatpur district.

M/S Saleh Ahmed was selected for accomplishing WP-01 package of Shariatpur-Jajira-Naudoba (Padma bridge connecting road) development project at a cost of Tk 1.25 billion.

A food ministry’s proposal for increasing consultancy charge by over Tk 76.8 million for constructing a modern steel food silo under modern food storage facilities project got approval.

Gerico France is providing consultancy service to the scheme. CCGP gave nod to a procurement proposal for collecting Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor (VOIP)and take related service from Mobileum,     Inc. USA at a cost of Tk 563.2 million.

Earlier, a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) was also held on Sunday chaired by the finance minister, which approved in principle two proposals.

It gave a go ahead in principle to a proposal of agriculture ministry for constructing pavilion for taking part in 7th ‘International Horticultural Exhibition Expo 2022’ to be held in the Netherlands from April 14 to October 09 this year.

CCEA also approved in principle a proposal for collecting modern geo location system for National Telecommunication
