Bashundhara Group, the largest industrial conglomerate of the country, on Sunday handed out blankets among the destitute affected by cold in Rajshahi.

In Pirijpur of Godagari upazila, 500 distressed people including the elderly, the disabled and widows received the blankets from Bashundhara Group. 

Local school headmaster Sabiar Rahman, social worker Shafiul Islam Mukta and other civil society members attended the event.

Receiving a blanket, elderly woman Shefali Bewa said, “Our house is located beside the river. We feel cold to such an extent that we cannot sleep at night. Now, I am happy to get the blanket which will be of great help.”

Hazrat Ali, 60, said he lost his homestead due to the erosion of the Padma River and is struggling for survival.

“We are keeping body and soul together. My family does not afford a blanket or any warm clothes. The blanket will help us to get rid of the biting cold,” he said.

Bashundhara Group stood by the destitute in various places of Chapainawabganj on Saturday.

The largest business conglomerate reached out to impoverished people in Kushtia the previous day.
