Work on e-DP system starts

Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Dr Md Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal inaugurated the preparation of Electronic Defense Procurement (e-DP) system at the Directorate General Defence Purchase (DGDP) in the capital’s Tejgaon on Wednesday, marking Mujib Barsho and Golden Jubilee of Independence.

Dr Abu Hena spoke at the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.

“The armed forces are a symbol of the confidence of our people. If e-DP is implemented in defense procurement, people’s confidence will increase further. Through this, the country will go one step ahead in building a digital Bangladesh led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

Mentionable, one of the successful initiatives of the present government to build a digital Bangladesh is to complete the government procurement activities through electronic government procurement i.e. e-GP.

Following this, on March 28 this year, the prime minister approved a project to formulate the e-DP system to automate defense procurement activities.

The project is being run under the overall direction of Major General Md Nazrul Islam, director general of the Directorate General Defence Purchase and under the supervision of Project Director Brigadier General M Nuruzzaman Chowdhury.

The proposed e-DP system will include 39 stakeholders, 2,000 domestic and foreign suppliers and banks involved in defense procurement. The Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is acting as the consultant for the project.

The inaugural function was also attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Defense, military and civilian officials of the Directorate General Defence Purchase, representatives of stakeholders, suppliers and banks.
