A mild to moderate cold wave was sweeping across the northern region and some other parts of the country on Monday, causing immense sufferings for the people, particularly low-income groups and day-labourers.
The cold-affected districts are Gopalgonj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Jashore, Kushtia, Chudanga and Barishal.
Night temperature may fall slightly over the southern region and may remain unchanged elsewhere across the country. Day temperature is likely to remain nearly unchanged over the country, the Met office forecast. Country’s lowest 7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Chuadanga while it was 14°C in Dhaka on Monday, Met office sources said adding the temperature across the country may drop further.
The chilly weather is disrupting normal life of people in the cold-hit districts. Livelihood of poor including, day labourers and rickshaw pullers, are being affected by the biting cold.
Many people of the cold-hit districts were seen buying warm clothes and quilts. Poor people are seen lighting fire with straw and leaves in the morning to protect themselves from the cold.
According to the latest Met office bulletin, weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country. Light fog may occur at places over the country in early morning.
