A newborn baby who was thrown from a building in the city’s Wari area on Friday night died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday.
The baby girl breathed her last around 7:00 am at Ward 211, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, who is in charge of DMCH police outpost.
Apurbo Rabi Das, one of the rescuers, said that he was with his friends on the side of the road around 11:30 pm when they heard a sudden loud noise.
He said there is a 10-storey building and a one-storey tin-roofed structure before the building. The baby fell on the structure and rolled down onto the road. When the infant was taken to hospital, she was still alive.
Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station, said they suspected that someone threw the baby from the upper floor of the building or any other nearby buildings. Police are investigating the matter.
