Ministers and bigwigs of the ruling Awami League on Friday came down heavily on Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders for their evil politics centering the treatment of convicted Khaleda Zia.
The ruling party leaders also urged the leaders of its arch rival BNP to refrain from carrying out unhealthy politics over the issue.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, warned that none would be allowed to destabilize the country through creating anarchy in the name of waging movement for Khaleda Zia’s abroad treatment.
“Remain alert against all kinds of conspiracies and plots of BNP in the name of movement. Befitting reply has to be given to them those will try to hinder the development march of the country,” he said.
Replying to an allegation of BNP secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that Khaleda Zia has been slow poisoning, Quader said Mirza Fakhrul would be main accused for it.
“Foods are being supplied to Khaleda Zia by her family. Only BNP men remains beside Khaleda Zia, even BNP-oriented doctors are giving treatment to Khaleda Zia. If she (Khaleda) is being poisoned, BNP men are responsible for it as BNP men are roaming around her all the time. Neither the Awami League nor the government is roaming by her,” he said.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud alleged that fugitive convicted BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman wants to do politics by cashing Khaleda Zia’s health condition.
“Her (Khaleda’s) sentence was not commuted. Despite this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with her administrative power, has given her (the BNP leader) the opportunity to stay with her family outside the jail,” he said.
The information minister said, “But, in the language (BNP secretary general) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke on Thursday, it seems to us that they have failed to realise the generosity of the Prime Minister shown to Begum Zia.”
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said BNP itself main obstacle on sending Khaleda Zia for her treatment abroad.
“BNP is heating up the political atmosphere unnecessarily. They do not know whether they want Khaleda Zia’s release or abroad treatment,” he said.
“If they want to take Khaleda Zia abroad, they can appeal presidential clemency for her. There is no legal scope in the present situation to allow ailing Khaleda Zia to go abroad for advanced medical treatment,” he said.
