Aw1ami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday alleged that the remarks of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) became a source of entertainment for the people of this country.

“Such remarks made by the leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) are a source of entertainment for the people,” he said.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said this while virtually inaugurating two bridges under Khulna zone from his official residence on the parliament premises in the capital.

“Actually, BNP has become a politically bankrupt. Those who are reluctant to stand by people and those who have been abandoned by the people are now bankrupt,” he said.

“Even though BNP talks about democracy, they are afraid to participate in the election and wage a movement. That’s why they are bankrupt,” he added.

The 305-metre long Manikhali Bridge on Satkhira-Ashasuni-Goaldanga-Paikgacha Road has been constructed at a cost of Tk 37crores while the 140-metre long Mathabhanga bridges on Kushtia (Trimohoni)-Meherpur-Chuadanga-Jhenaidah Road was built at a cost of Tk 22crores.

Obaidul Quader said the Mathabhanga Bridge would ensure uninterrupted communication between Mujibnagar, the first capital of Bangladesh, and other parts of the country, including Dhaka.

The bridge would pave the way for setting up a land port here through the development of communication between these areas with other parts of the country, he said.

The minister also instructed the authorities concerned to complete the construction work of Khulna-Jashore highway as soon as possible.
