The Bangla edition of remarkable book ‘Operation X’, a tale of naval commando operations conducted jointly by Indian Navy and Mukti Bahini during Liberation War in 1971, was formally launched in Dhaka on Monday.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque attended the book launching ceremony as the chief guest while State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharjee was present at the function as the special guest. High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram K Doraiswami also took part in the programme.
The operation was conceptualised by the then Chief of Indian Navy, Admiral SM Nanda and Captain (later Vice Admiral) Mihir K Roy while it was executed by Capt MNR Samant.
Over 450 naval commandos were trained and infiltrated into erstwhile East Pakistan to disrupt the Pakistani military and logistics lines of supply by destroying water craft, jetties and marine infrastructure so that Pakistani forces could not resupply themselves, which ultimately led to their swift capitulation in 13 days of the war.
