Clash between AL, rebel candidates leaves 10 hurt

MYMENSINGH: At least 10 people injured in a clash between supporters of ruling Awami League (AL) nominated UP chairman candidate and its rebel candidate in Dhobaura upazila of the district.

The incident took place at Baligaon Bazar at about 11:00 pm on Sunday night.

Baligaon union parishad incumbent chairman and AL backed candidate for the upcoming UP polls Shamsul Haque alleged that supporters of a rebel candidate former chairman freedom fighter Abdul Quadir have attacked his election rally at Baligaon Bazar of the Dhobaura upazila.

Shamsul Haque’s supporters said that the followers of rebel candidate Harun-or-Rashid suddenly attacked the rally at night and started vandalising there, leaving 10 injured. The injured have been given treatment at Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex.

Being informed, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Dhobaura Police Station OC Abul Kalam Azad.

Legal action would be taken after receiving complaint, he added.
