Madrasa student goes missing in Buriganga

A 12-year-old madrasa student fell into the Buriganga River on Saturday and went missing, reports UNB.

The student was identified as Atif Afnan, a student of class five at Dharmaganj Islamia Arabia Dakhil Madrasa and son of Shahadat Hossain.

The incident occurred around 9 am when Atif was jumping from one bulkhead to another at Dharmaganj Shahin cold storage terminal in Fatullah.

After informing the Fire Service around 12 noon, a diving team from Dhaka came and was conducting a rescue operation. Atif’s madrasa teacher Abdul Matin said some students came to him in the morning and said Atif fell in the river as his leg got tangled with a rope while jumping from one bulkhead to another.

Atif didn’t know how to swim, Matin said. His parents were immediately informed of the incident.

Officer-in-Charge of Fatullah Model police station Rakibuzzaman said efforts are underway to rescue the boy.
