Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Friday said media plays vital role in shaping the life of people and building a nation.

“Media plays a very important role in shaping the life of people and building a nation,” he said.

The information and broadcasting minister was addressing a programme marking 23rd birthday of channel-I television at its office premises in the capital’s Tejgaon area.

Hasan Mahmud, also the joint general secretary of Awami League, said airing without clean-feed of foreign channels have been stopped across the country from Friday.

About the mobile court drives to implement ad-free (clean-feed) broadcasting of foreign TV channels, Hasan said, “Thousands of crores of money are being invested for airing advertisement in foreign channels. Country’s economy would have been benefited if that money would have been invested for airing advertisement in the TV channels in home instead of foreign TV channels by breaching law.”

Talking over Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, Hasan Mahmud said work is underway to formulate a policy on the OTT platform.

“The draft has been completed. One the policy is passed, the OTT platforms will have to follow it. Action will be taken against them if there will be any violation,” he said.

Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak and channel-I managing director Faridur Reza Sagar, among others, also addressed on the occasion.
