CHATTOGRAM: The Railways Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman and Lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury said a modern railway station having all facilities is being constructed for the students of International Islamic University Chattogram (IIUC).

Besides, a shuttle train will be launched for plying between the city and IIUC campus, he said.

The lawmaker said these while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of works of the railway station at the IIUC campus under Sitakunda upazila in the district on Wednesday.

Fazle Karim said there was no guardian of Bangladesh Railway before the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took power and she has taken the railway to a unique height after taking charge.

The present government will also introduce bullet train in the country, he said. Train movement to and from the Cox’s Bazar will also begin in 2022 to ensure easy movement of the tourists, Fazle Karim said.

A total of 55 railway stations will be constructed in the country and 26 of them will be in the East Zone, he said adding that they will also construct railway track to Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Kaptai and Ramgarh roads.

Bangladesh Railway General Manager (East Zone) Md Jahangir Hossain presided over the inaugural ceremony while Lawmaker and IIUC Board of Trustees Chairman Professor Dr Abu Reza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nadvi, lawmaker Khadijatul Anwar Sony, IIUC Vice Chancellor Professor Anwarul Azim Arif and Bangladesh Railway Chief Engineer (East Zone) Md Suboktagin were present as special guests among others.

Mentionable, the construction works of railway station, access control, station approach road and platform sheds beside the IIUC campus will be started from October 7.
