2 more die of dengue, 219 hospitalised

The number of deaths caused by dengue has been increasing day by day in the country while the number of patients hospitalised with the disease has reached 7,414 in September.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 219 more dengue patients were hospitalised and two deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning. It said 7,414 dengue patients were hospitalised in September, 7,698 dengue patients in August, 2,286 in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January this year.

Some 12 dengue patients died across the country in July while 34 died in August and 19 in September, according to the health directorate data.

The DGHS said 167 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 52 patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday.

A total of 736 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 218 outside the city, it said. The number of deaths from the dengue disease has also been increasing day by

day as a total of 65 deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.

However, the unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least 77 people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 17,790 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country, including in Dhaka city, from January to September 28 this year.

So far, 16,771 dengue patients have been released from hospitals after recovery, the DGHS report said.
