Hilsa export to India resumes

Popular News

The government on Monday resumed the export of Hilsa partially to India ahead of Durga Puja, the largest festival of Hindu community.

Ministry of Commerce has issued a notification allowing 52 exporters to ship 2080 tonnes of fish each following the export guideline 2018-21.

“Each exporter can ship 40 tonnes of fish till October 10,” read the notification signed by deputy secretary Tania Islam.

The exporters can’t transfer the shipments rights in sub-contract. In August, the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association sent a letter to the commerce ministry, seeking permission to export hilsa.

The BFFEA in its letter said that the production of hilsa increased by 79 percent in the last one decade and the country produced 5.33 lakh tonnes of the fish in the financial year of 2018-19.
