232 more hospitalised with dengue

At least 5,104 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across the country in September alone.

Two more dengue patients died and 232 others were hospitalized in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its health bulletin.

With the latest figure, the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease rose to 59. Of the new patients, 187 were hospitalized in Dhaka while the remaining 45 cases were reported in other divisions.

Some 1,197 dengue patients are receiving treatment in the country as of Saturday. Of them, 990 patients are in the capital while the rest 207 patients are in other divisions.

Of the deceased, 54 died in Dhaka city, two each in Chittagong and Khulna division and one in Rajshahi.

At least 15,460 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across the country since January. Of them, 14,204 patients have recovered so far.

The number of hospitalization with dengue in a single day hit the highest 343 patients on September 7.

The country recorded 7,698 dengue cases in August this year. In July, 2,286 people were diagnosed with dengue and 12 died while in June, 272 cases were reported with no deaths, according to DGHS data.
