Woman ‘kills self’ holding video call of husband

COX’S BAZAR: A woman took her life at Pekua upazila in the district while talking her husband on a video call on Wednesday night.

Deceased Sultana Bibi, 21, was the wife of Malaysia-expatriate Abul Kashem, a resident of Bharuakhali village under the upazila. The couple was blessed with a one-and-a-half-year-old son.

Sources said the woman committed suicide by hanging herself in the house at about 8:00pm while talking to her husband.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.

However, the in-laws of the victim woman went into hiding soon after the incident.

The deceased’s father Syed Miah alleged that Sultana got married with Abul Kashem two-and-a-half-year ago. Since then, the in-laws did not allow her to go to her father’s house once.

Moreover, they used to torture her for dowry in spite of giving Tk 1 lakh to Abul Kashem while going abroad.

Sultana was killed by the in-laws, he alleged.

Regarding the matter, Pekua Police Station inspector (investigation) Kanan Sarker said police are investigating the matter.
