Universities may reopen after Sept 27

Country’s universities can reopen by taking approval of their academic council and syndicate anytime after September 27 through completing registration of all students for Covid-19 vaccine.

Ministry officials said if any university considers that all their students have completed registration, they can reopen anytime after September 27 based on approval of their academic council and syndicate.

The decisions were taken at a virtual meeting held among Education Ministry, UGC, vice-chancellors of public universities and top health officials with Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni in the chair.

As per the meeting decision, the students of all public and private universities will need to complete registration for getting Covid-19 vaccine by September 27 and then the universities can reopen taking approval of their academic council and syndicate.

Students with NID card can register under the Surokkha app and those who do not have the NID card can register with their birth registration number using apps regulated by the government.

All students will have to complete registration by September 27. Then, the students will receive the vaccine at university medical centre upon completing the registration.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will take all necessary steps, including technical assistance, to complete vaccination of the university students.

The vice-chancellors of the universities at the meeting said that they will take decision to reopen the universities as soon as possible after holding meeting with academic council and syndicate.
