The numbers of daily coronavirus infections and deaths have been declining in the country for the last few weeks but the single-day coronavirus infections and deaths increased in the last 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 51 coronavirus patients died and 1,871 infection cases were detected in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Sunday.
The DGHS said the highest number of deaths (264) was recorded in the country on August 5 and August 10 while the highest number of coronavirus cases (16,230) was reported on July 28.
The number of total infections has risen to 15,27,215 with a daily positivity rate of 8.65 percent while the overall infection rate has declined to 16.60 percent.
Earlier on June 7, the health officials reported 11.47 percent positivity rate followed by an alarming rise in infections which reached its peak at 32.55 percent on July 24.
Besides, the national death toll has increased to 26,931 with a case fatality rate of 1.76 percent.
The DGHS said the coronavirus situation is worst in the capital as the highest corona deaths and infections were registered in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours.
Of the 1,871 new cases, 1,258 were logged in Dhaka division while 32 in Mymensingh, 244 in Chattogram, 76 in Rajshahi, 76 in Rangpur, 51 in Khulna, 45 in Barishal and 49 in Sylhet division.
Around 3,586 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 14,72,067. The recovery rate has stood at 96.39 percent.
A total of 25,074 samples, out of 25,112 collected, were tested at 802 labs in the country during the period. With this, 92,46,733 samples have so far been tested across the country.
The country's maiden coronavirus case was reported on March 8 last year while the first death from the virus on March 18 the same year.
