RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Medi-cal College Hospital (RMCH) recorded five more fatalities at the corona unit in the last 24 hours till 6:00 am on Sunday, taking the death toll to 80 so far this month.
The previous day’s death figure was also five while on Wednesday’s it was just two, which was the ever-lowest since the second coronavirus wave hit the region around five months back.
RMCH Director Brigadier General Dr Shameem Yazdany told newsmen that two of the deceased were the residents of Rajshahi while one each from Chapainawabganj, Natore and Kushtia districts. Among the fresh five fatalities, three were female and two male.
“Of the fresh fatalities, three tested positive for corona and two had corona symptoms,” he said.
Seventeen more patients were admitted to the designated corona wards of the hospital in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of admitted patients to 137, including 56 positive cases. Nine of the patients are undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Twenty-three patients returned home from the RMCH corona unit after being cured during the time.
Yazdany said the infection rate has decreased by 1.83 percent in Rajshahi compared to the previous day.
Yazdany said the number of admitted patients has declined during the last couple of weeks. So, the number of designated wards and beds in the hospital was reduced, he added.
