Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that bureaucrats are now running the country.
“Where is Awami League? There is no existence of Awami League now. All are now Amla League. Bureaucrats are now performing the duties of Awami League. This is the current picture of Bangladesh,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the law enforcement agencies failed to keep the law and order under control while they are ‘extorting money’ by throwing the poor in jail.
“Now police have started new tactics. They’ll engage in journalism leaving the task of controlling law and order and arresting thieves and robbers,” he said.
He came down hard on the government for ‘taking away press freedom’.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister said that permission should be sought from now on to air programmes on social media TV channels from abroad which means that the government will control these media too, the BNP leader said.
“I saw the inauguration of metrorail trial run. People are happy and are saying that there would be a change. Is the change only for these few people in Dhaka? What about thousands of people?” he said.
Speaking at the event, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said it is not the opposition party but the ruling Awami League is ‘plotting’ as they came to power by ‘hatching conspiracy’ in the last general election. “Now you (government) should form a conspiracy affairs ministry and falsehood ministry,” he said.
