Comrade Afzalur Rahman, a valiant freedom fighter and the president of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB)’s Rangpur unit, passed away in BIRDEM Hospital in the capital on Thursday while undergoing treatment for coronavirus. He was 75.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Mulatol Jame Mosque in Rangpur city. Then his body was then taken to the CPB district office where the party activists and people from all walks of life paid homage to the veteran leader.
Comrade Afzalur Rahman left behind his wife, two children, and a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn his death.
Leaders of various political parties and voluntary organisations of Rangpur including Muktijoddha Sangsad, CPB, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Bangladesh Jasad, Samajtantrik Dal of Bangladesh (BSD), student union and youth union have expressed their condolences over the death of Afzalur Rahman.
Besides, various journalists’ organisations including Rangpur Press Club, Reporters Club, City Press Club, Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association, Television Camera Journalists Association, Rangpur Photo Journalists Association and Reporters Unity also mourned the death of the freedom fighter.
