Highest daily corona deaths recorded again

A total of 2,476 people died from coronavirus and 126,838 got infected with the virus in 10 days of the current month of August with a slight but gradual fall in the daily positivity rate for the last few days.

However, there is no reprieve from the virus fatalities as the number of single-day deaths is still over 200 in the country for over two weeks.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 264 deaths, joint highest since the pandemic, and 11,164 infections from the virus were detected in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Earlier, highest 264 deaths were recorded in the country on August 5 and record 16,230 cases on July 28.

The number of total infections has risen to 1,376,322 with a daily positivity rate of 23.54 percent while the overall infection rate has risen to 16.76 percent.

Besides, the national death toll has jumped to 23,161 with a case fatality rate of 1.68 percent.

The country has seen more than 100 single-day deaths from the virus for 45 consecutive days. This is the 17th day in a row that the country reported over 200 single-day deaths. A total of 336,226 people were infected with the virus and 6,182 corona patients died across the country in July last.

Highest corona deaths and infections were registered in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours.

Of the 264 fresh deaths, 92 were reported in Dhaka division while 60 in Chattogram, 25 in Rajshahi, 27 in Khulna, 18 in Mymensingh, 14 in Rangpur, 17 in Sylhet and 11 in Barishal division.

Of the 11,164 new cases, 5468 were logged in Dhaka division while 351 in Mymensingh, 2506 in Chattogram, 508 in Rajshahi, 315 in Rangpur, 757 in Khulna, 669 in Barishal and 590 in Sylhet division. Around 14,903 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,234,762. The recovery rate has stood at 89.71 percent.

A total of 48,416 samples were tested at 708 labs in the country during the period. With this, 8,212,041 samples have so far been tested across the country.
