Police have solved the mystery surrounding the recent murder of a caretaker in the city’s Uttara area.

Two persons, one of whom the caretaker, Subol Chandra Pal, was familiar to, allegedly committed the murder in order to rob the houseowner.

A team of Uttara West Police Station arrested the two – Masud Rana and Mizanur Rahman – in Belkuchi of Sirajganj on Monday.

Mohammad Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Crime Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police, disclosed the information at a media briefing at his office in Uttara of the capital on Tuesday.

On Sunday, police recovered the body of Subol, 44, from House 10 of Sector 3 in Uttara West.

The officer said that Masud was a driver of the house. He took Yaba and spent time with several women in the room of the caretaker on the ground floor of the house, he said. About one and a half months ago, Masud left the job and joined a lungi factory in Sirajganj as a driver, he said.

In Sirajganj, Masud along with a certain Mizanur planned to rob his previous employer.

As per the plan, Mizanur and he came to the room of the victim at about 12:30 am on July 10 and had a conversation with him. “When the caretaker fell asleep, they were trying to tie up his  hands and legs at about 3:30 am. But when Subol sensed it, he got up and tried to resist them. At one stage, Masud attacked Subol with a pair of scissors, leaving him dead,” said the DC.

Soon after the murder, they left the house.
