Bangladesh has seen a slight fall in both deaths and infections from coronavirus over the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning. During the period, 12,198 new cases were detected against Monday’s 13,768, highest single-day tally since the pandemic, while 203 fresh fatalities than 220 a day earlier. Highest 230 deaths were reported on July 11.
The downtick in the numbers follows a decrease in tests with 41,755 carried out in the past 24 hours to Monday’s 44,067.The daily positivity rate has also fallen to 29.21 percent from 31.24 percent while the overall infection rate stands at 14.84 percent.
With this, total coronavirus cases have reached 1,047,155 in the country while the national death toll has jumped to 16,842 with a case fatality rate of 1.61 percent.
The country has seen more than 100 single-day deaths from the virus for 17 consecutive days while the daily detection of over 8,000 cases for the 10th day in a row.
A total of 2,339 people died and 134,897 were infected with the virus across the country in July till Tuesday which is the highest compared to any same period during the pandemic.
Highest corona deaths and infections were reported in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours.
Of the 203 new deaths, 61 were reported in Dhaka division while 30 in Chattogram, 27 in Rajshahi, 53 in Khulna, seven in Mymensingh, 15 in Rangpur, five in Sylhet and Barishal division each.Of the 12,198 fresh cases, 4,729 were registered in Dhaka division while 506 in Mymensingh, 2,343 in Chattogram, 1,008 in Rajshahi, 605 in Rangpur, 1,588 in Khulna, 879 in Barishal and 540 in Sylhet division, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Around 7,646 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 889,167. The recovery rate has declined to 84.91 percent.
A total of 7,056,989 samples have so far been tested across the country.
