AL leader Moinuddin passes away

Moinuddin Mondol, president of Chapainawabganj district Awami League (AL) and chairman of the district council, passed away in a city hospital on Friday. He was 74.

The veteran freedom fighter was undergoing treatment at the ICU unit of Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital in Dhaka.

He was suffering from different diseases including kidney, liver related complications. When his condition worsened he was shifted to the ICU unit five days ago.

Moinuddin Mondol left behind his wife, a son, daughter and a host of relatives and followers to mourn his death.

He was buried at Mridhapara Graveyard following his namaz-e-janaza after Maghrib prayers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of Moinuddin Mondol.

In a condolence message, she said, “The Bangladesh Awami League has lost a sincere, dedicated and a pro-people political leader at his demise.”

The Prime Minister also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to his bereaved family members.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader also expressed deep shock at the death of Moinuddin.

Besides, Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton, District Awami League General Secretary Abdul Wadud and Chapainawabganj-1 Lawmaker Shamil Uddin Ahmed expressed profound shock at the death of seasoned Awami League leader.

In his long political career, Moinuddin Mondol served as the general secretary of the district Awami League and the chairman of Chapainawabganj municipality.

He also worked as the president of Chapainawabganj district Shramik League, VP and GS of Chapainawabganj Government College and senior vice-president of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Chatra League.
