Step taken to plant palm trees in Sundarganj upazila

GAIBANDHA: Sundarganj upazila administration of the district has taken up a step to plant palm trees in all 15 unions and a municipality of the upazila during the current rainy season.

The objectives of the palm tree plantation are to maintain the ecological balance of the environment, enhance the beauty of nature and check the erosion of the roads, reports BSS.

Apart from it, palm trees also helped to reduce the deaths caused by lightning strikes as it is tolerable to the thunderbolts, which caused a number of peoples death every year in the rural areas of the country.

UNO Mohammad Al-Maruf said as many as 4,500 saplings of the tree would be planted on both sides of roads under the unions and the municipality during the current season. The plantation activities would be done under ‘KABITA’ (Kajer Binimoye Taka) project, he added.

Earlier, local lawmaker Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary inaugurated the palm tree plantation activities on the premises of Upazila Parishad (UP) on Sunday as the chief guest.
