Abahani Limited earned a hard-fought one-wicket win over Gazi Group Cricketers in their second-round match of Super League stage of the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League in Dhaka on Monday.
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club opener Saif Hassan struck 60 off 33 balls and helped his side register a comfortable six-wicket win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the same venue earlier in the day’s first match.Meanwhile, at the BKSP-3, Partex Sporting Club skipper Hasanuzzaman became the second player to score a hundred in the ongoing league but they fell 23 runs short against Old DOHS in a high-scoring Relegation League match.
Despite the fall of wickets from one end, Najmul Hossain struck a brilliant 58 off 49 balls which helped Abahani reach 131-9 in 19.5 overs to earn their successive victory in Super League stage against Gazi Group.
Gazi Group earlier were bowled out for 130 runs in 19.1 overs after Abahani pace-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin finished with 4-18.
In the first game, Skipper Nurul Hasan struck 42 off 24 balls before he was given out for obstructing the field as Sheikh Jamal made only 123-9 in their stipulated over after being sent to bat first.
In reply, Prime Doleshwar reached 126-4 in 17.4 overs to complete their first win in Super League.
Rakin Ahmed and Mohaiminul Khan made unbeaten 92 and 50 runs respectively as Old DOHS scored 199-2 in 20 overs after they decided to bat first in the first Relegation League match.Hasanuzzaman then struck 105 off 52 balls with completing his hundred off just 48 balls to become the country’s second quickest hundred-maker after Pervez Hossain, who made a hundred off 42 balls during Bangabandhu T20 Cup last year.
However, his efforts went in vain as Partex could make 178-8 in their stipulated overs to continue their winless run in the ongoing meet.
Old DOHS will face Legends of Rupganj in a crucial Relegation League match today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium which is likely to decide the second relegated team from this year’s DPL after Partex.
Partex will play their last match on Wednesday against Rupganj at the BKSP-3.
Meanwhile, the first-round Super League match between Prime Doleshwar and Gazi Group will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today as the match has been decided to be shifted bodily.
Gazi Group were 73-4 in 12 overs when the match was called off and they will resume the match from where they left on Sunday.
