Bangladesh continued to witness a sharp jump in the number of daily deaths and cases from coronavirus with 78 fatalities and 4,636 infections reported in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.
The daily case tally was highest in 68 days as the country recorded 5,185 infections on April 14 last. On Sunday, the country logged 82 virus-related deaths and 3,641 new cases.At the same time, the positivity rate has also risen, crossing 19 per cent for the first time in two months.
With this, the national death toll from the virus has reached 13,626 with a case fatality rate of 1.59 per cent while the caseload jumped to 856,304. The daily infection rate has risen to 19.27 per cent while the overall positivity rate stands at 13.48 per cent.
Of the new cases, 1,837 were reported in Dhaka division, including Dhaka city (1,294), while 143 in Mymensingh, 461 in Chattogram, 799 in Rajshahi, 257 in Rangpur, 945 in Khulna, 117 in Barishal and 77 in Sylhet division.
Of the 78 deaths, 23 were registered in Dhaka while 11 in Chattogram, 15 in Rajshahi, 14 in Khulna, three in Barishal, two in Sylhet, nine in Rangpur and one was logged in Mymensingh division.
Some 2,827 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 785,482 with a recovery rate of 91.73 per cent, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A total of 24,057 samples, out of 24,509 collected, were tested at 528 labs in the country during the period. With this, 6,351,791 samples have so far been tested across the country.
