Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) are playing ducks and drakes with Khaleda Zia’s date of birth.

“BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other leaders are playing ducks and drakes with Khaleda Zia’s date of birth,” he said.

Hasan, also the joint general secretary of the Awami League, made the comment while addressing a view-change meeting on contemporary issues with journalists at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

He said that every creature, including human being, is born once, not several times. “That’s why no human being can have five or six dates of birth as each individual is born only once in a lifetime,” he said.

The minister made the remarks as BNP secretary general held a press conference on Monday after the High Court on Sunday sought relevant documents from the government to determine BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s ‘genuine’ date of birth.

Referring to the Mirza Fakhrul’s comment, the minister said the BNP secretary general made disrespectful statement against the High Court that was also offensive.

The minister said recently Khaleda Zia has disclosed her ‘new date of birth’ in the coronavirus test report and as per the test report, she was born on May 8 in 1946.

But, Khaleda Zia used to celebrate her birthday on the National Mourning Day on August 15, the day when a group of derailed army officers killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his almost all the family members.

According to different documents, Khaleda Zia mentioned August 9, 1945 as her birthday in the matriculation certificate, September 5, 1945 in her marriage certificate, August 19, 1945 in her passport.
