LAKSHMIPUR: Residents of Ramganj municipality of the district have been suffering from waterlogging, dilapidated roads and poor drainage system for a long time as the development works of the municipality stuck up due to alleged conflict between Mayor and the respective contractor.

Last year, an e-Tender of Taka 7.2 crore floated for the development and construction of roads, drains in Ramganj municipality.

Sharif Mohammad Firoz Alam, proprietor of Shanto Enterprise, participated in the bidding fulfilling all terms and conditions and won all the works of 11 groups as he offered lowest prices.

Around seven months elapsed after the bidding but development works of the municipality have not started yet.

In this regard, contractor Firoz Alam said that municipality authorities did not issued work order for the projects to him yet. He alleged that mayor Abul Khair Patwary is not willing to issued work order to my firm as his favourite contractors failed to win the bid. Now he (mayor) is trying to black list my licence and float re-tender for these development works.

However, Mayor Abul Khair Patwary also told local reporters that municipal council had black listed Shanto Enterprise as it did not complete several development projects earlier and created harm to the residents.

He also said that they sent a letter to the ministry seeking cancelation of the tender.

“We’ll go for a re-Tender once the previous tender canceled,” the mayor added.
