Mufti Amir Hamza put on remand

A  Dhaka Court on Tuesday placed Mufti Amir Hamza on a five-day remand in a case filed on charges of misinterpreting religion and spreading extremism through waz mahfils (religious programmes).

Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam passed the order after police inspector Kazi Mizanur Rahman, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking on a ten-day remand.

Opposing the remand petition of the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), defence lawyer submitted bail for the accused but the court rejected the plea after hearing.
