Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday alleged that BNP is trying to exploit the Rozina issue after they have failed in every sphere.

“Bangladesh Nationalist Party is trying to cash in on the Rozina issue,” he said while exchanging views with a delegation of journalist leaders at his secretariat office in the capital.

The delegation met the AL leader to talk about the case filed against Rozina Islam, a journo of a Bangla Daily, under Official Secrets Act on May 17.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, urged the journalist leaders to be on alert so that no pro-Pakistani or pro-Hefazat-e-Islam forces can create chaos.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking the Rozina issue in a very humane manner.

The premier has realized that Rozina should not be kept in police custody for interrogation, he said.

Quader said the court had made the right decision and the government did not object to Rozina’a bail.

Mentioning that Sheikh Hasina-led government is friendly to journalists, the minister said the government would not do anything that goes against the interest of journalists.

Earlier in the morning, the AL general secretary placed a wreath at the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the premises of Dhaka University central mosque marking his 122nd birth anniversary.

He said the non-communal and humanitarian spirit of Kazi Nazrul Islam will always be a source of inspiration.

Bangladesh will move forward being imbued with the non-communal and humanitarian spirit of Nazrul Islam under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Quader.
