The government has decided to extend the closure of border with India for eight more days as the Covid-19 situation continues to worsen in the neighbouring country, said a press release on Friday.

But the cargo trucks will continue to move between the two countries for continuation of import and export activities. “The ongoing restrictions on the movement of passengers through the land ports between India and Bangladesh have been extended until 31 May 2021,” said the press release issued by Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Agartala, capital of the Indian state of Tripura.

Earlier on April 26, the border with India was closed for 14 days, which was later extended for 14 more days from May 9.

The ongoing closure of the border is supposed to expire on May 23.
