The nation is set to observe the 48th anniversary of the Bangabandhu's receipt of the Joliot-Curie Medal of Peace, the first ever international award for Bangladesh.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was awarded the medal on May 23, 1973.

As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the day will be observed without any kind of public gathering due to the ongoing surge of coronavirus infections, said a press release of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee.

The committee stressed the need for commemorating the day highlighting the works of Bangabandhu.
