Singer Momotaz’s birthday today

Today is the birthday of country’s leading folk singer and lawmaker Momotaz Begom.  Her fans, friends, and well-wishers have sent greeting messages to the artiste on her birthday.

Celebrities and her co-artistes also take to social media and shower love on Momotaz with birthday wishes.

On the occasion of her birthday, Momotaz will spend most of the time with the people of her constituency (Manikganj-2).

Talking about her birthday, Momotaz said, “I have no special plan to celebrate my birthday. I will pass this special day with people of my constituency. Today, I will distribute relief materials to the needy people of my locality.”  

Momotaz Begom, popularly known as ‘The Music Queen’, was born on May 5 in 1974 in Singair upazila of Manikganj.  She spent most of her childhood learning music from her father, Modhu Boyati, a baul singer.  She also took lessons from Razzak Dewan and Abdur Rashid Sorkar. 

She has recorded around 800 albums. Some of her notable albums include ‘Return Ticket’, ‘Ashol Boithoki’, ‘Murshider Talim’ and ‘Ronger Bazar’.

Momotaz won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer three times for the films ‘Nekabborer Mohaproyan’ (2014), ‘Swatta’ (2017) and ‘Maya: The Lost Mother’ (2019).

In 2021, she earned an honorary doctorate degree from Global Human Peace University in Tamil Nadu, India.

Momotaz Begom was elected to parliament from Manikganj-2 in 2014.
